The Disability Data Initiative Launch
Toward an Inclusive and Sustainable World:
Making Data and Statistics Disability-Inclusive
On Friday June 18th, in conjunction with the 14th Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Programme on Disability and the Fordham Research Consortium on Disability co-organized the launch of the Disability Data Initiative (ddi).
A major barrier to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for persons with disabilities is a scarcity of disaggregated data on disability. This prevents the development of appropriate and effective disability-inclusive policy. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionally affected persons with disabilities. It has also blocked the flow of disability data at the moment when it has been needed most.
The Disability Data Initiative (ddi) is one of the first initiatives to review and analyze internationally comparable data on disability and inequalities.
This event was co-sponsored by the Philippines Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the World Bank.
